Calvin and Hobbes
Bill Watterson
Perhaps the most formative work in my reading life — Watterson distilling the universe into a teacup.
Perhaps one of the most formative pieces of art in my entire life. I started reading these in or before kindergarten. I distinctly remember referencing some panels in class with another friend (John Stieber) and the teacher being mildly alarmed.
These collections were my most frequently sought items at Scholastic Book Fairs and they've continued to influence and shape me decades later.
Bill Watterson is one of the finest minds of my time, right up there with Nassim Nicholas Taleb in terms of distilling the universe into a teacup for me to enjoy and experiment with for my own attempts at distillation.
