Horror is not my favorite genre of entertainment. Who loves to be horrified for fun? Well, some people definitely do, and I don't mind it from time to time. So the Obsession and Backrooms double-feature was rare but a worthwhile treat.

Obsession was much funnier than I expected. And that was of course enhanced by seeing it in theaters, where laughter is contagious and even the more suspenseful, frightening bits were all amplified by a packed theater hooting and hollering together as we undertook the entertainment journey.

The cringefest of showcasing obsessiveness was there as well, and also more than I could've guessed. And one of the deaths was just so heartbreaking and wonderfully gory that I'm still thinking about it weeks later (and all the money deservedly made by a film picked up at a festival and turned smash success at the dying box office).

I'd have liked a bit more suspense, and Backrooms was admittedly more of my vibe (re: different films, styles, points being made; just my preference with them existing in the same breath).

Recommended, and I look forward to seeing more from the director and the lead actress, who was phenomenal and carried most of the weight of the movie (with everyone else being fine).
