We Burned So Bright
TJ Klune
What I anticipated: an intriguing concept, a dash of romance that I've recently dabbled with, and an enhanced sense of solidarity. And that's what I got!
What if the world was going to end in 30 days?
Well in this one, two elder gays (their words, not mine) trek across the United States for an important mission of absolution.
Memorable characters, great pace, very good narrator. Decent ending to a grand premise.
A good fiction romance in a pure sense. Not hot and steamy sort but beautifully told tale of love and "what if?" A lot of love shown in different ways: mutated, strange, scary, straightforward -- all the different facets of love you come across in your time on earth.
Certainly sad, but also beautiful and hopeful. Very, very well written.
I'd recommend if you're not the "hard science only" fiction crowd.
If you’re one of those “the science has to check out” pedantic sort of people (whether for books, films, or beyond) then you're a fool without an imagination who misunderstands the purpose of examining life through a speculative lens and may never learn how to feel all the intangible and undefinable that makes life worth living. I fear for you.
