★★★★★

Treat yourself to the adventures of Finn and Jake and the genius that is Adventure Time. It's a fever pitch of laughter and philosophical wisdom that make it a modern classic.

The adventure duo of Finn and Jake are some of the best.

Amazing voice acting, imaginative animation that exists nearly nowhere outside of the brilliant work here, and action packed episodes clocking in at a brisk 11-minutes make this a perfect show to throw on in the background.

I'd say it shares some of the DNA of Calvin & Hobbes more than Regular Show's Beavis and Butthead. And Regular Show and this share a tremendous overlap, having aired at the same time on Cartoon Network and borrowing many of the same artistic devices. But they're a bit different at their core despite the shared veneers.

This is one that weaves an epic, tragic, and magical tale. They leaned further into those elements with the spinoff, but the subtletly of the core is not the gravity that makes it so special -- it's being wrapped in the most fantastical clothes via incredibly animated comedy madness that holds it all together.

I love this show dearly and it'll never get old to me (and I will never get too old for it). I strongly recommend turning off your brain and watching a few episodes to see if it can also help you.

There are a few spinoffs with my favorite being the very similar Adventure Time - Side Quests. That changes very little of the magical calculus while the others lean into other more mature elements to varying degrees of success. To me, brevity is the soul of wit and the balance of characters in the original is a magic that's hard to repeat when leaning outside of that core setup.
