Fun, frightening, and so enjoyable to follow along.
You're treated to brilliant acting from each character, carefully following a pendulum wildly swinging between horror and comedy and everything between. The way everyone effortlessly swaps between those -- from the characters on the screen to the writing to the cinematography and direction -- it's some masterful that's always entertaining.
The show has a bit of a monster-of-the-week formula mixed with an overarching narrative. And that may concern some a la Lost or the like, but to me it doesn't really matter. Give me more episodes and I'll have fun any which way, even if the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and the meaning of evil on a fictional island are never fully revealed. Because it's the Twin Peaks-esque characters that are the clear highlight, not the actual narrative being told, so you can keep that going indefinitely.
I strongly recommend this one and hope you enjoy S1 as much as I did.
