If you want a silly buddy comedy show that's brilliantly stupid then this is the one for you. Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol are passionate geniuses with a plan for entertaining. They've worked together since high school it'd seem and their chemistry together is fantastic.
But I'd be remiss to not call out Matt Johnson specifically. His talent is off the charts and he's one of the most charismatic performers I've ever had the good fortune of watching. The show has a lot of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in its DNA (along with Flight of the Concords and live action Regular Show vibes). But it's really the gravity of Matt Johnson's talent in his lines and his deliveries and his mannerisms and every aspect of the character's performance that makes the show work.
Each episode apes another piece of popular entertainment (Indiana Jones, Mrs. Doubtfire, etc.) and revolves around booking a show at the Rivoli. But each rendition gives you its own unique laughs rather than simply rehashing.
The collision of entertainment with the real world is so good here and the real world is a real part of the show. In a How To with John Wilson and Nathan Fielder sorta way, it shoots in public often and the real reactions and real locations heighten the hilarious sequences of events.
This is well worth watching.
