National Postal Museum
Washington, DC, USA
"Messenger of Sympathy and Love, Servant of Parted Friends, Consoler of the Lonely, Bond of the Scattered Family, Enlarger of the Common Life."
The Postal Service is our nation's difference maker. It's still admirable in the eyes of virtually every country. And ol' Benny Boi "Ben" Franklin had a big hand in it. Because he's smart like that.
There's a lot of current events and issues involving it. And I'm a simple man, who simply knows that every person in the country should be able to mail essential and non-essential items anywhere else in the country (and to some extent, the world, but that requires another non-USPS party and I don't trust like that).
Anyhoo, this museum is in a beautiful buillding, costs nothing, and is the precursor to the internet -- both of which made and continue to make our nation great. Thank you Smithsonian for another beautifully curated
This is a great 60+ minutes (depending on who you are, how fast you and your party reads, e.g. kids cannot read fast! but still plenty to do for all ages). And if you're really smart like me, you can visit it immediately after getting off the Amtrak at Union Station in Washington, DC or right before your ride home from there.
