AMC A-List
AMC
Art, entertainment, education -- these things are worth your time and money.
I enjoy all theaters. But AMC is the theater near me. And they have the A-List subscription for ~$30/mo (price of ~2 tickets).
I try to go to ~1 movie per week. This was partially due to an old friend, semi-mentor, but all around brilliant creative who instilled in me that constantly absorbing new ideas is essential in any field. Especially any type of work requiring taste and creativity (read: anyone who wants to be good at anything regardless of field).
Anyhoo, I also go for the popcorn, although I suspect the "butter" oil is worse for me than smoking three packs of cigarettes (so I try to limit to 2+ hour movies only). The location I go to isn't clean but it also isn't filthy. And we only have 1.5 premium screens -- a Dolby with reclining seats that's incredible + an IMAX (no reclining seats, not a huge fan of the screen vs. Dolby). Then there are about a dozen other screens of varying size/quality (with local riff raff occasionally coating the movie screen with what I'm guess is a soda that was tossed like a grenade).
If you haven't been to a theater because you'd rather "wait for streaming", then I hope you reconsider. The infectious atmosphere of a scary movie or a comedy where the crowd is electrified and the currents shoot through are worth it. And it's also worth keeping a beat on the zeitgeist by seeing what everyone's about to be consuming -- because the right movie really can change your personality.
