Mixtape
Beethoven & Dinosaur
Short, sweet, and exactly the type of game I enjoy these days with good art, a great soundtrack, and mercifully short runtime.
This video game was a worthwhile experience.
Mixtape is about 3 hours long, it features some beastly tunes, and it had an engaging story that I enjoyed playing through.
Not every cup of tea is for everyone. I enjoy quasi-movie, visual novel-esque games. Also see: Life Is Strange, What Remains of Edith Finch, Sayonara Wild Hearts, etc. And this game fits that mold with a poignant story with great colors and a tremendous amount of style.
It's also one of the most recent occurrences of a twin film type phenomenon -- Lost Records - Bloom and Rage had LOTS of similarities too it, although that was a much more thoughtful rumination on coming of age vs. this one's sillier interpretation. Sadly, Lost Records studio seems to be shutting down, and then hopefully the brilliant folks at Annapurna Interactive continue putting out great work.
I'd treat this one like a movie. It's a crowd pleaser, it's wonderfully accessible to skilled and non-skilled gamers alike, and it's great even if you don't 100% vibe with nostalgia (e.g. everyone knows East Coast is Beast Coast and I've never skateboarded down a mountain but the earnest imagination of post-high school ambition is fairly universal).
