Patton Oswalt Live!
Patton Oswalt
The ticketing webpage had this categorized as "Spoken Word" but despite the lack of that it was still a great performance by Patton and opener Samantha Ruddy.
First time seeing Patton and going to the Strathmore venue.
Samantha Ruddy opened the show in the gorgeous auditorium in the taint of Maryland (i.e. Bethesda/Silver Spring area). Her set was as great as her Mickey Mouse shirt, with a strong Uber sidequest bit and the generational insight that we've got a good bunch in Alpha who won't be afraid of cringe, as evidence by them hearing the numbers "6-7" and saying I LOVE THAT.
Patton Oswalt was of course masterful. From Hitler being a tough act to follow to pre-cellphone self-indulgences. His delivery, timing, intonations — all top notch. Dirtbilly 2028, y'all.
It also turns out that we share a passion for lurking in prepper communities to take the temperature and remind ourselves about the relative spectrum of human fears.
A good stand-up set for all ages, as you'd expect, and strongly recommended. Although the politically high minded may not enjoy his few quips.
Side note for anyone visiting the Strathmore. There is a mansion that was built by MR AND MRS. OYSTER in the early 1900s. It's not much to see but a good way to burn time before a show if you get there early.
