Being from the Baltimore, MD area I've had some preconceived notions about Pittsburgh and I'm big enough to admit I'm wrong.
Downtown was far more dilapidated than I'd have guessed. Steel City has fallen on some hard times and the litter alongside the unused real estate was pretty darn high post-COVID in 2022. And the food wasn't much to write home about.
But the people were nice, the views were astounding, and it was mesmerizing seeing how an industry boom could shape a city so distinctly like that, i.e. they put bridges on top of bridges on top of bridges they had so much steel. And they mined and smelted so much steel the city is essentially dug out alongside the river. It’s beautiful.
And speaking of distinctive, Randyland is a lovely art installation that’s worth a visit.
