Portland
Portland, Maine, United States
They love their haddock in town and for good reason.
Architecture from history was fascinating.
Similarly styled large boxy houses presumably mostly built after great fire, depressive period, revitalized period, depressive period
No garages because built up post-fire in 1870+ so cars weren’t really accounted for
The island life vs. mainland life and the old money oozing from both sides was fascinating
The seemingly ancient (100-300 yrs old) military installations were also intriguing (Battery Steele absolutely worth a visit)
You will likely need a car to get around unless you're very much downtown with a good bicycle in tow.
Must do
Botanical Garden
Ferry to Peaks Island
Fort Battery Steele via rented, disgusting bikes
