Portland
Portland, Maine, United States
They love their haddock in town and for good reason.
Architecture from history was fascinating.
- Similarly styled large boxy houses presumably mostly built after great fire, depressive period, revitalized period, depressive period
- No garages because built up post-fire in 1870+ so cars weren’t really accounted for
- The island life vs. mainland life and the old money oozing from both sides was fascinating
- The seemingly ancient (100-300 yrs old) military installations were also intriguing (Battery Steele absolutely worth a visit)
You will likely need a car to get around unless you're very much downtown with a good bicycle in tow.
Must do
- Botanical Garden
- Ferry to Peaks Island
- Fort Battery Steele via rented, disgusting bikes
